Footpaths
Public rights of way, including public footpaths and bridleways, criss-cross the parish and provide a great opportunity to explore our lovely countryside.
Leaflets detailing six circular walks in and round Olveston Parish are available to download. You can download each walk leaflet here:
Olveston Parish has a volunteer footpath warden who reports to the Parish Council and is in regular contact with South Gloucestershire Council. You can report any issues (such as blocked paths or damaged stiles, etc.) by contacting either the footpath warden (ruthboyles@hotmail.com), the Clerk to the Parish Council or South Gloucestershire Council on the link below.
Public Rights of Way
A right of way is a path that anyone has the legal right to use on foot, and sometimes using other forms of transport.
There are different types of public rights of way:
Public footpaths are normally open only to walkers, runners and wheelchair users (where appropriate)
Public bridleways are open to walkers, runners, wheelchair users, horse-riders and cyclists (NOTE: that horses have priority)
Restricted byways are open to walkers, horse-riders, and drivers/riders of non-mechanically propelled vehicles (such as horse-drawn carriages and pedal cycles)
Byways Open to All Traffic (BOATs) are open to all classes of traffic including motor vehicles, though they may not be maintained to the same standard as ordinary roads.
Permissive Paths are routes which landowners allow the public to use but which are not themselves public rights of way.
